The new story of Gula Gula


Gula Gula is a social enterprise dedicated to the development and maintenance of food forests all around the world. Through the off-set of unavoidable COsurplus many Dutch companies invest in the Gula Gula Food Forest in Indonesia. Gula Gula’s Food Forest shows us how people can live in harmony with nature, and make a decent income. Gula Gula asked us to develop a clear and appealing story. We incorporated this new storytelling into the new website and also created a complete new look and feel to the brand.

Gula Gula had to develop an urgent and appealing story with a logical structure, in order to accelerate to more social impact. The story of Gula Gula is now more simple, immersive and personal. We developed the story for different personal profiles that corresponded to the different target groups, in order to effectively convince the different target groups.

Simplicityand calmness


We wanted the brand to be more accessible and understandable for an entrepreneur that might be interested in joining the movement. The new logo design and the website are based on two principles: simplicity and calmness. The calmness of the new brand experience, gives the brand an authentic character. The website of Gula Gula also offers a clear story, so that people can easily understand Gula Gula’s business model.

Through the use of a ‘low-poly’ design in the new graphics, the visual experience was drawn into a new dimension. We have created three-dimensional worlds to capture the food forest. We kept the new graphics ‘clean’ so they could support the clear visual brand identity.

As a visitor of the new website you are able to immerse yourself in the virtual food forest of Gula Gula. Visitors can look at the flourishing new acres of land and they can discover the places where people spotted rare animal species again.

The background of the Gula Gula logo has got the same shape as the ‘Gula Gula plank’ which plays an essential role for the local farmers to make the land blooming again. We incorporated this detail in the new online experience as well. The ‘Gula Gula shape’ of the different text elements on the website also contribute to the user experience and flow of the website.
